The 2023 Christmas Special was a night of glitter, glamour, and festive cheer, featuring a lineup of celebrities eager to show off their dancing skills in the spirit of the holidays.
Among the contenders, one star stood out not only for their flawless performance but also for their trailblazing accomplishment.
As the judges awarded their final scores and the winner was revealed, the audience erupted in cheers, and fans at home took to Twitter and Instagram to express their admiration.
For the first time in the show’s history, a drag performer, **Tayce Szura-Radix**, clinched the coveted trophy alongside professional dance partner **Kai Widdrington**, creating a moment that was as groundbreaking as it was joyous. Their electrifying routine, which combined stunning choreography, precise technique, and boundless charisma, earned them a perfect score of 40 from the judges. This feat alone was enough to secure their place in Strictly history, but it was their ability to connect with the audience on an emotional level that truly set them apart.
Fans were quick to praise the decision, calling it a significant step forward for inclusivity and representation on the show. “This is what Strictly is all about—celebrating talent, diversity, and joy,” one viewer tweeted. Another fan commented, “Tayce and Kai didn’t just win; they created magic on that dance floor. What an inspiring performance!”
Tayce, already a celebrated performer in the drag world, brought their unique flair to the Strictly stage, proving that dance transcends boundaries of gender and identity. The judges were equally effusive in their praise. **Craig Revel Horwood**, often known for his tough critiques, called their performance “absolutely stunning—a masterclass in storytelling through movement.” **Motsi Mabuse** lauded the duo for their emotional depth, while **Shirley Ballas** described their dance as “a moment we will never forget in Strictly history.” Even **Anton Du Beke**, who is relatively new to the judging panel, couldn’t help but join the chorus of applause, saying, “This is why I love this show—you’ve reminded us all of the joy and power of dance.”
The historic win has sparked a broader conversation about the evolving landscape of entertainment and the importance of representation in mainstream media. Many fans noted that Tayce’s victory sends a powerful message to viewers of all ages and backgrounds, particularly young people who may see themselves reflected in Tayce’s journey. “Seeing Tayce up there, owning their truth and delivering such a breathtaking performance, is a moment I’ll never forget,” one fan wrote. “It’s so important for kids watching at home to know they can be anything they want to be.”
