Amanda Platell has come forward to defend herself and others like her, addressing the smears and criticism aimed at women of a certain age.
She specifically takes aim at Gregg Wallace, whom she has a history with, calling out the desperate and despicable nature of those who attempt to discredit older women.
Platell expresses her frustration at the ongoing tendency to undermine women who have reached a certain stage in life, particularly those in the public eye.
She emphasizes that women of her age are far tougher than society often gives them credit for, and any attempts to put them down only reveal the insecurity and malice of those behind the smear campaigns.
Platell acknowledges that as women age, they often face an increase in scrutiny, particularly from the media. It’s a harsh reality that older women are frequently judged for their appearance,
choices, and public personas in ways that their male counterparts are not. This double standard, Platell argues, is not only unfair but also deeply rooted in societal expectations of women.
She believes that the tendency to focus on their age and appearance reflects a broader, more troubling pattern of devaluation that society places on older women. Instead of being celebrated for their wisdom and experience, they are often dismissed or vilified.
The criticism aimed at women like Platell and others in the spotlight can be particularly damaging, as it feeds into the toxic narrative that older women are no longer relevant. Platell firmly rejects this notion, stating that women of a certain age have gained invaluable life experience and have much to offer both personally and professionally. Rather than succumbing to the pressures of society’s expectations, Platell asserts that women in their prime years are resilient and capable of thriving despite the negativity directed their way. She insists that the more society tries to tear down women like her, the stronger they become in their resolve to stand up for themselves and each other.
In the case of Gregg Wallace, Platell’s remarks come from a place of personal experience. She feels that his actions and comments reflect a broader societal issue where older women are seen as easy targets for criticism. Platell is particularly vocal about how this behavior is not only harmful but also reflective of a lack of respect for the strength and perseverance that comes with age. She describes these attempts to smear older women as not just a personal attack but a cultural problem that needs to be addressed. Platell’s words serve as a call for more respect for women of all ages, especially those who have built careers and lives that others may envy.
Ultimately, Platell’s message is about empowerment. She challenges the notion that aging women should shrink away or apologize for their experience and strength. Instead, she encourages older women to embrace their power, their history, and their resilience. Platell’s stance is clear: women of a certain age have nothing to prove and everything to be proud of. She urges society to stop tearing down women as they grow older and to start recognizing their worth and contributions. Platell’s defense of women of her age group is not just a personal statement but a rallying cry for all women who face similar judgment and ridicule.
