Savannah Guthrie has sparked speculation that she may be the next to leave NBC’s Today following Hoda Kotb’s emotional departure announcement last month.

The longtime co-anchor, 52, reflected on her close bond with Hoda and admitted they are in a similar stage of life,
subtly suggesting that she, too, may be considering an exit from the morning show.
Savannah and Hoda Share a Life Stage

During her appearance at the Project Healthy Minds’ World Mental Health Day Gala,

Savannah spoke candidly about her friendship with Hoda, 60, and the deep similarities between them.

Speaking to Us Weekly, she shared, “We’re dear friends, and we have a lot of similarities. We’re basically in the same phase of life.”
Savannah further elaborated, touching on their experiences as mothers who welcomed children later in life. “We have these little kids that we both feel so lucky that we got to have later in life. It makes a lot of sense to me what she has decided,” she added, seemingly hinting that she, too, could be thinking about making a similar decision.
A Possible Exit for Savannah?
Savannah’s comments have led to speculation that she might be considering her own departure from Today. Having joined NBC in 2007 as a legal correspondent, she has played a significant role at the network for nearly two decades. Her career trajectory has seen her cover high-profile political stories as a White House correspondent and host The Daily Rundown from 2010 to 2011.

In 2012, she became a key figure on Today, initially hosting the third hour before moving into a primary co-anchor role. When Hoda took over for Matt Lauer in 2018, the two formed a beloved duo at the morning show’s helm.
With Hoda’s exit, many are wondering whether Savannah will follow suit, especially given her acknowledgment of the major life transitions they are both navigating.
Savannah Reflects on Hoda’s Decision
While the idea of leaving Today hasn’t been explicitly confirmed by Savannah, she has made it clear that Hoda’s departure is both an emotional and inspiring moment.

“I was so sad for myself and for the show because—to me—she’s irreplaceable,” Savannah admitted. However, she also expressed admiration for Hoda’s bold step forward, adding, “I was happy for her as her friend. She’s being so creative and stepping into an amazing new future that she doesn’t exactly know what will look like. She believes in herself, and she knows and hears that call. I find that to be incredible.”
Hoda’s Emotional Goodbye
Hoda announced her decision to leave Today on September 26, making the announcement both on-air and via social media. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she reflected on her 26-year career with NBC, calling it “the longest professional love affair of my life.”
“Looking back, the math is nuts,” Hoda wrote. “Because I’ll be working through the beginning of 2025, there’s plenty of time to talk about what’s ahead for all of us. But one thing I know for sure right now is this: everything’s going to be just fine.”

She reassured her fans and colleagues that Today would remain strong despite the changes, writing, “The Peacock’s feathers are never ruffled … No matter who comes or goes. TODAY and its amazing people— all of you— never waver.”
Family Comes First for Hoda
One of the biggest factors influencing Hoda’s decision to step away was her desire to spend more time with her two young daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5.
During her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, she opened up about her priorities shifting toward family life. “You just have a feeling when you watch them grow. They need a little more of me, and I need more of them,” she explained. “So I think it’s all going to work out beautifully.”

What’s Next for Today?
With Hoda’s departure and Savannah hinting at possible changes in her own future, Today could be facing a major shake-up in the coming months. Dylan Dreyer has already sparked speculation about Hoda’s potential replacement, and fans are curious about who might step in to fill the void if Savannah were to leave as well.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, one thing is certain—both Hoda and Savannah have left an undeniable mark on morning television. If Savannah does decide to move on, it will undoubtedly be an emotional farewell for the Today family and its devoted viewers.

For now, fans will be watching closely to see what Savannah’s next move might be.
