One social media user commented, “Heartwrenching,” while another wrote, “This is so tragic, I’m sure there are more people going through similar difficulties and losses.”
A Tragedy That Shook a Community
The horrific attack occurred on July 19, 2024, when 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana carried out a premeditated stabbing spree at a Taylor Swift–themed yoga and dance workshop in Southport. Elsie Dot Stancombe and Bebe King, along with 24 other children, had been participating in the event when Rudakubana launched his attack.
Tragically, nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar also succumbed to her injuries the following day, bringing the death toll to three. The incident left a community devastated, and families struggling to come to terms with the shocking loss of their loved ones.
During the upcoming interview, Susanna Reid will speak with the grieving parents of Bebe King and Elsie Dot Stancombe, giving them the opportunity to remember their daughters and share their experiences with the public. In a preview clip, Reid said, “No one will forget the tragedy of the three young girls murdered in Southport last summer in a premeditated attack that shocked the world and left a community in mourning. Join me tomorrow for the first television interview with the parents of Bebe King and Elsie Dot Stancombe as they pay tribute to their beautiful daughters from 6 on Good Morning Britain.”

A Harsh Sentence for a Heinous Crime
Following the attack, Axel Rudakubana was arrested and later convicted of multiple charges, including three counts of murder. In addition, he was found guilty of attempting to murder eight other children and two adults, as well as possessing a knife.
During sentencing, the court handed Rudakubana a life sentence with a minimum term of 52 years—one of the longest minimum sentences ever recorded for a crime of this nature. The case drew widespread attention due to the severity of the attack and its impact on the victims’ families and the wider community.

Despite the gravity of his crimes, Rudakubana refused to be present for his sentencing, citing illness and causing a disturbance before being taken to his cell. Justice Goose, who presided over the case, delivered a powerful statement while issuing the sentence. He remarked, “Many who have heard the evidence might describe what he did as evil—who could dispute it?”
Honoring the Victims
The forthcoming Good Morning Britain interview aims to provide a space for the victims’ families to share their memories and honor the lives of their daughters. It is expected to be an emotional and deeply moving segment, shedding light on the devastating effects of violent crime while giving the bereaved parents an opportunity to speak about their loss.
