Hilary stood at the altar, her heart pounding. Dressed in white, she clutched her father’s arm and gazed at Myron, the man she was about to marry.
“If anyone objects to this union, speak now or forever hold your peace.”
Silence.
Then, a voice thundered from the back of the church.
“I object!”
Gasps filled the room as an elderly man stormed down the aisle, eyes locked on Myron. Hilary turned to her groom, expecting shock—but his face twisted in anger.
“I warned you,” the man said coldly.
Before anyone could react, the church doors burst open. Police officers swarmed in, surrounding Myron.
“Myron Brown, you’re under arrest for fraud.”
Hilary’s world crumbled.
The truth hit like a wrecking ball—Myron had married women for money, only to vanish. The man who objected? His father.
“I couldn’t let him do this to you,” Mr. Brown said.
Months later, Myron was convicted. Hilary found Mr. Brown and handed him her settlement.
“This belongs to you.”
“You will heal,” he promised.
And she did.
