Max George, the 36-year-old singer from The Wanted, has bravely shared the details of his ongoing health battles,

revealing that he underwent a second heart surgery after complications from his first procedure.
The singer, who is also known for his stint on Strictly Come Dancing, faced a series of health challenges after being rushed to the hospital in December due to heart issues.
George was initially fitted with a pacemaker to address irregularities in his heart, but the device led to unexpected complications.

Describing the experience, he explained that after the pacemaker was fitted, he began to feel strange “flickering sensations” in his chest that progressively worsened.

The sensation became particularly problematic when his heart rate increased, causing a “shock” to his heart that led to painful and unsettling episodes.

“I thought I was on the road to recovery,” George told The Sun on Sunday. “But when I was told I needed a second operation, I was nervous. Pulling the pacemaker wires out of the heart wall risks bleeding on the heart, and I didn’t have a choice. I had to have it done.”
Despite his fear, George went ahead with the procedure, which was performed last month. The night before the surgery, he confessed to feeling “really nervous” and struggled to sleep due to the potential complications. Fortunately, the operation was successful, but the emotional and physical toll was far from over.
During the second procedure, George was heavily sedated but still conscious. He recalled how he listened to music by Oasis to calm himself and distract from the overwhelming fear of the surgery, especially the concern that he might “bleed out” during the process.
However, the complications didn’t end there. Following the heart surgery, George’s doctors discovered enlarged lymph nodes in his lungs, which required a biopsy. This additional procedure added to his health struggles, with George describing the recovery as “painful.” For five days, he suffered chest pain and was coughing up blood, a worrying symptom that made his recovery even more challenging.

“There was a small chance I could lose my voice,” George explained, admitting that the possibility was a concern. Despite the risks, he decided to go ahead with the biopsy, knowing it was necessary for his recovery. The procedure was tough, but George ultimately received the all-clear from his doctors.
At present, George is focusing on regaining his health. Despite his recent health struggles, the singer is determined to rebuild his fitness. He has been taking daily dog walks, which he sees as a way to rebuild his strength after what he described as being “the least fit I’ve ever been.”
Throughout the ordeal, George was supported by his girlfriend, actress Maisie Smith, who he praised for being a “great nurse” during his recovery. His mother, Babs, also played a key role in offering emotional support.

The experience left a deep impact on George, especially when it came to reflecting on his life and relationships. In fact, he previously revealed that while in the hospital, he wrote a will, fearing that he might not survive the surgery. “That first night I wrote a will, I thought I was going to die,” George admitted. “When you get told that, you really realise what your responsibilities are. I’ve got a partner, Maisie, I’ve got a family. I’ve got two little nephews, and all of that stuff really comes to the front of it all.”
Despite the challenges he faced, George is now focused on moving forward, with a renewed sense of gratitude for life and the people around him. As he continues to recover, he credits his girlfriend for being a source of strength, and he remains optimistic about getting back to full health in the future.
The emotional and physical toll of these health struggles has certainly tested George, but with the support of his loved ones and a focus on recovery, he is determined to make a full comeback.
