Jenna Bush Hager has had an exciting and meaningful start to August, filled with family celebrations and a renewed commitment to supporting students and teachers.

The Today show co-host recently welcomed a new addition to her extended family as her twin sister, Barbara Pierce Bush, gave birth to her second child, son Edward Finn Coyne.
A Special Family Moment
Bush Hager, 42, was overjoyed to become an aunt again and shared how her three children—Mila, 11, Poppy, 9, and Hal, 5—were equally thrilled to meet their new cousin.

The timing of Edward Finn’s birth made the moment even more special for the family.

“My son’s birthday is on August 2, and [the baby] was born on August 4,”

Bush Hager told PEOPLE. “So when he got his gifts, I said, ‘Here are your presents, but guess what? Auntie Barbara gave you a baby.’”
Her son Hal, in particular, was ecstatic about having a new little cousin, responding, “That’s so much better than all the presents!” She noted that he’s especially excited to have another “little dude” in the family to play with.
Bush Hager also expressed how much she cherished being able to support her sister and her husband, Craig Coyne, during this special time. “It was amazing. I was so happy that I got to go to the hospital and meet him,” she said. “It’s so fun to watch your sibling, whom you have loved your whole life, get to add to her beautiful family. It’s incredible.”
Quality Time in Maine with Family
In addition to celebrating the newest family member, Bush Hager and her loved ones spent quality time together in Maine. The trip was particularly meaningful as her children reunited with their grandparents, former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush.

“We just got back from Maine, which was amazing,” she shared. “I got to see my parents. My kids got to see their grandparents, which was so much fun.”
The visit was even more special after Mila and Poppy returned from their time away at sleepaway camp. Now, Bush Hager is focused on making the most of the remaining summer days before the back-to-school rush begins.
“We’re still just trying to spend that time together,” she said. “Even at home, things are slower than they would be during the school year.”
Advocating for Teacher and Classroom Support
As the new school year approaches, Bush Hager is using her platform to encourage parents to engage with their children’s education and support teachers in any way they can. As a former teacher herself, she understands the demands educators face and is partnering with Kleenex to help provide students with the necessary school supplies to succeed.

“I think it’s good to introduce yourself to your kids’ teachers,” she said. “They have the hardest job. One thing I try to do is go introduce myself.”
Bush Hager recommends that parents make an effort to reach out at the start of the school year, whether through a personal introduction, an email, or a note.
“Whether you send a letter or write an email on the first day just to say, ‘Hey, I want to introduce myself. I’m Mila’s mom, it’s nice to meet you. I’m around if you need help. Tell me how,’” she explained.
She emphasized that teachers often need extra support, whether it’s organizing classroom supplies, stocking books, or assisting with materials.
“If you ask a teacher, ‘How can I help you?’ trust me, they need help,” she said. “They need somebody to help out.”

Giving Back with Kleenex’s School Support Program
In partnership with Kleenex, Bush Hager is encouraging people to nominate schools in need of assistance. Through August 26, anyone can visit kleenex100years.com to submit nominations, explaining why their chosen school deserves support. Schools will be selected based on specific criteria, focusing on those that align with Kleenex’s mission to provide students with the resources they need to thrive.
“My goal is to introduce myself and find out how I can be helpful, and offer support before I have to start asking questions about the homework or emailing about things that got left in the classroom,” she said. “That’s what I know we can do and what I will do.”
