After nearly four decades in journalism, Hoda Kotb is turning the page to an exciting new chapter.

The longtime Today show anchor, 60, recently announced that she would be stepping away from the morning show
after 17 years to spend more time with her daughters, Haley Joy and Hope Catherine.
But while her time in television is winding down, Kotb is already setting her sights on a new passion project—one focused on wellness and self-care.

A Surprising Announcement

In September, Kotb shocked fans and colleagues alike when she revealed her plans to leave Today.

The Emmy-winning journalist shared the news in a heartfelt letter to NBC staff before making an official on-air announcement.
“As I write this, my heart is all over the map,” Kotb said in her letter. “I know I’m making the right decision, but it’s a painful one. And you all are the reason why.”
She went on to explain that while her career in broadcasting had been incredibly meaningful, she felt it was time to shift her focus to her family.
“A new decade of my life lies ahead, and now my daughters and my mom need and deserve a bigger slice of my time pie,” she continued. “I will miss you all desperately, but I’m ready and excited.”
Although she is stepping away from her daily television duties, Kotb reassured fans that she would still remain a part of the NBC family in some capacity. Her official last day on Today is expected to be in early 2025.
A New Chapter in Wellness
While Kotb is saying goodbye to morning television, she’s already gearing up for her next endeavor—one that revolves around wellness. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, she shared her enthusiasm for her new venture, which she describes as being in its early stages.

“I have something that I am super excited about that’s in its infancy,” she revealed. “It’s a whole wellness situation, and I got lit up by that just from stuff I’ve been working on and doing on myself.”
Kotb explained that her interest in wellness has grown through personal experiences and insights she’s gained from friends, including Jenna Bush Hager and Maria Shriver. Over time, she has explored various self-care practices, including breathwork, and has been amazed by how they have positively impacted her life.
“I’ve learned to do a bunch of different things through friends, and I’ve been loving it,” she said.
Her ultimate goal is to develop a wellness app and possibly even launch wellness retreats. She hopes that her new platform will be both fun and beneficial, helping others experience the same sense of calm and balance that she has discovered.
“When I learned some of these things, I was like, ‘Wait, why do I feel like my baseline feels less stressed? Why do I feel this way?’” she said. “So I started talking about it, and the more you’re interested, the more you go down that path.”
Though the project is still in its early days, Kotb is eager to see where this new journey takes her.
“It is something that I’m excited about exploring and seeing what’s out there,” she shared.

Balancing Family and Career
Family has always been at the heart of Kotb’s decision-making, and her departure from Today is no exception. In recent years, she has been open about prioritizing her daughters, especially after her youngest, Hope Catherine, faced health challenges. Now, as she prepares for her next chapter, Kotb is looking forward to spending more quality time with her children while also diving into her new passion.
Though the transition will be bittersweet, Kotb remains optimistic about the future.
“Happily and gratefully, I plan to remain a part of the NBC family, the longest work relationship I’ve been lucky enough to hold close to my heart,” she said.
As fans prepare to bid farewell to Kotb on Today, many are excited to see what comes next for the beloved journalist. Whether through her wellness initiative or future endeavors, one thing is certain—Hoda Kotb is embracing this new chapter with the same warmth, enthusiasm, and authenticity that have defined her career.
