Hoda Kotb is stepping into a fresh chapter of her life, excited to create a new routine with her family following her departure from Today on January 10.

After nearly three decades in the spotlight, Kotb, 60, is shifting her focus to spending more time with her daughters, Hope, 5, and Haley, 7, as they embark on this new phase together.
The beloved journalist has shared that she is looking forward to slowing down and allowing her family to settle into a more relaxed, “normal” rhythm.
In an interview with Today.com, Kotb revealed that her primary goal now is to let her daughters explore their individuality and develop their own voices.

She explained, “I’m going to let them find the voice inside them.”

The mother of two shared that her new routine will include more flexibility, including letting her daughters stay up later and take trips.

“Part of the reason I put them to bed at that hour is because I’ve got to go to bed,” Kotb laughed. “I’m like, ‘Goodnight! Everyone’s going to bed.’ They’re like, ‘It’s 6:30!’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, lights out!’”
Kotb’s excitement for this shift comes with a deep desire to create a space for her family to thrive without the constraints of a hectic work schedule. “I’m just going to let us be a family with a normal rhythm of life,” she said, explaining that she’s open to seeing how this new dynamic will unfold. Kotb also expressed her intention to allow her daughters the freedom to grow at their own pace, embracing the natural flow of family life without the rush or pressure she previously experienced.
This transition into a new normal comes after Kotb made the decision to leave New York City and relocate her family to the suburbs. In August 2024, she shared with her followers the reasons behind the move, explaining that she wanted her daughters to experience a more grounded and wholesome childhood. “I want my kids to feel grass on their feet, and play in the yard, and ride bikes down the street, and run up and down the stairs,” Kotb explained. She expressed that she could envision a peaceful life for her family in a quiet suburban town where her daughters could grow into “beautiful, independent, strong women.”

The move to the suburbs was symbolic of a larger shift in Kotb’s life. She described herself as being in a “repotting phase,” comparing her own personal transformation to a plant whose roots are growing too tightly in a pot. “It’s like my roots need a bigger pot,” she said. “You know when you take a plant out of a pot, and its roots are all twisted and tight? And then you put it in a bigger pot with fresh new soil and it just grows bigger and stronger? That’s the journey I’m on right now.” Though Kotb acknowledged that leaving behind the comfort of her previous life would be difficult, she remained optimistic, believing that this change would ultimately allow her to flourish in new and meaningful ways.
The timing of Kotb’s transition feels especially poignant, as she is now able to focus more on her family and her own personal growth. Her daughters, who are still young, are entering an exciting time in their lives, and Kotb is eager to be present for their milestones and experiences. The sense of balance and peace that she seeks for her family is becoming a reality as they embrace their new suburban life.

In October, Kotb celebrated her first Halloween in the suburbs with her daughters, sharing a glimpse of their festivities on social media. The family of three dressed up in matching costumes—Hope as a blue cheerleader and Haley in purple—trick-or-treating for the first time in their new neighborhood. Kotb posted photos of the event, with her daughters beaming as they filled their candy baskets, marking a memorable milestone in their new life. She captioned the post with a simple “Boo!” capturing the joy and excitement of their new beginning.
As Kotb looks ahead, she is enthusiastic about the possibilities that this new chapter holds for her and her family. She is ready to embrace the quiet moments, the shared experiences, and the opportunity to watch her daughters grow in an environment that nurtures them in ways that her busy career in New York City could not. It’s clear that Kotb is finding joy in the transition, and her focus now is on cherishing every moment with her family as they discover their new normal together.
