Cat Deeley has been a household name for decades, charming audiences with her warm personality and natural talent as a presenter.
As she celebrates her 48th birthday, she continues to shine on British television, recently taking on a co-hosting role on This Morning alongside Ben Shephard.
While her career remains a major highlight, Cat’s life away from the cameras is just as fascinating,
from her whirlwind romance with husband Patrick Kielty to a terrifying experience that led her family to move back to the UK.

A Flourishing Career in Television

Cat first gained widespread fame as a presenter on SMTV Live alongside Ant and Dec,

entertaining a generation of young viewers from 1998 to 2002. She then took the reins from Matthew Kelly as the host of Stars in Their Eyes, further cementing her status as a top television personality.
In 2006, Cat made a bold career move, relocating to Los Angeles to host the hit American reality competition So You Think You Can Dance. Her time in the US spanned 15 years, during which she built a successful career stateside and started a family with her husband, Patrick Kielty.
A Love Story That Took Time to Blossom
Cat and Patrick’s romance didn’t happen overnight. The pair first met in 2002 while co-hosting Fame Academy, but their relationship remained strictly professional for years. However, a grand romantic gesture changed everything.
Patrick once flew from Belfast to Los Angeles just to spend time with Cat on her birthday. Reflecting on that moment, she later admitted, “That’s quite possibly the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me.” It wasn’t long before their friendship evolved into love.
After just nine months of dating, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Rome in 2012. Since then, they have built a happy life together, welcoming two sons, Milo in 2016 and James in 2018.
A Terrifying Family Ordeal
Despite their happy life in the US, Cat and Patrick made the difficult decision to move back to the UK in 2020. Their return was prompted by a frightening experience that left the family shaken.
Cat revealed in an interview that Patrick and their eldest son, Milo, were caught in a terrifying situation at a shopping mall when an active shooter alert was issued. FBI agents quickly arrived on the scene, instructing shoppers to take cover.

Recalling the ordeal, Cat described how she received a phone call from Patrick, who tried to remain calm for Milo’s sake while arranging a safe pickup point. The incident was deeply unsettling for Cat, particularly as she realized how common such threats were in the US.
She also expressed her concerns about American school safety drills, explaining that young children are trained on how to respond to active shooter situations. “The danger suddenly becomes a reality,” she admitted, highlighting her growing unease about raising her children in such an environment.
This distressing experience played a key role in the family’s decision to leave Los Angeles and settle back in the UK, where they now enjoy a more peaceful life.
Patrick’s Heartfelt Tribute to Cat
Patrick has been one of Cat’s biggest supporters throughout her career, and he recently shared his pride as she landed her new role on This Morning. In a heartfelt Instagram post, he gave fans a glimpse into their life together and praised his wife’s incredible energy.
“I didn’t know what a morning person actually was until I met this woman,” Patrick wrote. “She gets up every day with a smile on her face. A 5.30 a.m., whistling in the shower, smile on her face. Then downs two coffees, and gives you the look. The ‘what the f*€k’s wrong with you, let’s do this’ look.”
He continued with a playful nod to her chatty nature, saying, “She likes a chat. To anyone. About anything. Anywhere. If there’s anyone in the world made for a show called This Morning, it’s this human.”

Welcoming Cat to her new role, he jokingly warned Ben Shephard to “strap himself in,” adding, “We couldn’t be prouder of you, @catdeeley. Go get ‘em, Mama!”
A Balanced Life Between Work and Family
Despite her demanding career, Cat remains dedicated to her family. She and Patrick are known for keeping their children out of the public eye, ensuring that their boys can grow up away from media scrutiny.
From her rise to fame to her personal struggles and triumphs, Cat’s life away from the television screen is filled with love, resilience, and exciting new adventures. As she celebrates her 48th birthday, she continues to be an inspiring figure, balancing work and family while remaining as charismatic as ever.
