but as the show gears up to celebrate its 50th anniversary, she’s reflecting on one sketch that holds a particularly special place in her heart.
During a recent sit-down with TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie, Poehler looked back at her years on SNL,
reminiscing about her time on the legendary sketch comedy show and sharing why one particular sketch remains her favorite.

Poehler, who was a cast member from 2001 to 2008, became one of SNL’s most beloved comedians, known for her sharp wit, impeccable timing, and ability to make even the most absurd characters feel real.

From her hilarious impressions to her iconic Weekend Update segments, she was a standout performer who helped define the show’s early 2000s era.
But when asked about her favorite sketch, Poehler didn’t choose one of her most famous moments or even one of the most widely recognized SNL bits. Instead, she picked a sketch that was deeply personal.
“There’s one that stands out because of the people I was with,” Poehler explained, hinting that her favorite sketch wasn’t just about the comedy—it was about the experience of creating it alongside her SNL family.

Though Poehler didn’t specify which sketch was her ultimate favorite during the TODAY interview, she has previously spoken about her deep admiration for sketches that allowed her to collaborate with close friends, including Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, and Seth Meyers.
One particularly special moment was her Bronx Beat sketch with Maya Rudolph, in which the two played fast-talking, no-nonsense Bronx moms hosting a local talk show. The recurring bit became a fan favorite not just for its humor, but for the undeniable chemistry between Poehler and Rudolph.
“Those sketches were so much fun because it really just felt like we were hanging out and making each other laugh,” Poehler once said.
Similarly, her time co-anchoring Weekend Update with Tina Fey and later Seth Meyers remains one of her most cherished experiences on the show.

“Weekend Update was such a blast because it was me and my friends getting to joke about whatever was happening in the world. It felt like a conversation we would be having anyway—just on live TV,” she shared.
For Poehler, SNL wasn’t just about delivering laughs to audiences—it was about the deep friendships and creative energy that made every episode memorable.
A New Podcast for More Laughs
As Poehler reflects on her time at SNL, she’s also looking ahead to new projects—one of which is her new podcast, Good Hang.

The podcast, which Poehler describes as “good, dumb fun,” will feature lighthearted conversations with guests from all walks of life. With her signature comedic style, she hopes to create a space where people can unwind and enjoy entertaining, off-the-cuff discussions.
“I just wanted to make something that feels like a real, fun conversation you’d have with your funniest friends,” Poehler explained.
Given her track record of making audiences laugh for decades, Good Hang is bound to be a hit among fans who miss her SNL days and those who simply love her humor.
